Redcar Properties invests in urban commercial real estate in Los Angeles by acquiring underperforming properties in high growth urban neighborhoods and adding value through specialized redevelopment.
Redcar’s Santa Monica office doubles as a green building and interior showcase for prospective clients. Their showrooms feature unique custom-made tables, chairs, and benches from fallen trees and/or re-purposed wood obtained from their construction sites. The one-of-a-kind pieces are custom-made locally. To foster healthy indoor air quality, they pose large succulent plants and trees facility wide – indoors and outdoors, and their Greenhouse helps mature them so they can be showcased to prospective tenants.
After Redcar completed a solar panel installation and a comprehensive LED lighting retrofit facility-wide, they saw a savings of 4,400 kWh annually. With the addition of ample skylights and occupancy sensors, indoor lights are rarely on during daylight hours. To incentivize the purchase of electric vehicles (EV) chargers are available free of charge for staff and clients.
Striving to be a plastic-free and zero waste office, Redcar’s kitchen is equipped with reusable food ware, reusable bags, and a water dispenser for employee use. Coffee is brewed by the cup using freshly ground organic beans purchased in bulk – avoiding annoying disposable coffee pods. For the rare occasion when clients request water ‘to go,’ Redcar provides glass bottled water only. Waste is separated for recycling and organics collection, serviced by the City of Santa Monica R3 Division.
Company bicycles and helmets are provided for staff and interns to run local errands.
Redcar is committed to making responsible environmental decisions and recognizes there are a variety of social and economic implications entailed. As part of this commitment, Redcar is a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (“UNPRI),” the world’s leading proponent of responsible investment.
