The Natural Resources Defense Council is an international nonprofit environmental organization with more than 3 million members and online activists. Since 1970, lawyers, scientists, and other environmental specialists have worked to protect the world's natural resources, public health, and the environment. NRDC has six offices in the USA and one in Beijing.  Constant monitoring and evaluating has allowed NRDC to remain at the forefront of sustainable practices. They continue to educate and inspire beyond their walls.

NRDC's office building in Santa Monica received the highest certification available for green building design, a Platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program in 2004. The 1920s building housing NRDC’s office conserves water and energy and showcases environmentally-sound materials. The building allows in ample natural light through three light wells and is fitted with LEDs. Nearly 90% of materials from deconstruction were reused or recycled during the construction of the building.

NRDC uses a real-time, web-based building utility monitoring system called Noveda, which monitors water and energy use as well as on-site solar generation in each office across the country. NRDC is in the process of replacing its original water recycling system with a less energy intensive and more efficient EcoVie AquaLoop System that captures gray water from the sinks and showers and rainwater from the roof to irrigate the surrounding landscape using a subsurface drip irrigation network. NRDC collects organic manner to be composted in addition to other typical recycling streams.

NRDC purchases supplies from Give Something Back – where a percentage of sales are donated to charity. Over 100 non-profit organizations voted by Give Something Back customers received heartfelt donations in 2017.
