Morley Builders is one of the largest Southern California-based construction firms, typically recycling up to 92% of demolition and construction waste. They have completed 30 LEED buildings with 8 more under construction.
Morley staff worked with consultants to achieve USGBC LEED Gold CI (Commercial Interior) certification for their Santa Monica headquarters. This comprehensive remodel incorporates innovative and sustainable features including but not limited to refurbished furniture, low-to-zero emitting materials and LED lighting. Lighting controls operate indoor light at levels of 100-50-0% of power depending on amount of incoming natural light from skylights Morley added across the entire roof. Restrooms have LEED-approved Dyson air dryers to reduce paper usage, HE (high-efficiency) toilets and urinals that use one pint per flush. Sustainability extends in creative ways as well; such as giving second life to deck shoring form ties used in concrete construction by turning them into wall art, and the staff kitchen table has a glass top with a repurposed cement bucket base.
Morley’s Sustainable Office commitment is detailed in company-wide policies ensuring the company gives preference to sustainable products such as FSC certified 30% post-consumer content paper and Ricoh all-in-one copier/scanner/fax. PC computers, laptops and monitors are EPEAT Gold certified. Morley includes the following statement when procuring for their company “When the choice presents itself, we THANK YOU for making the eco-friendly selection.”
Morley Builders/Benchmark Contractors is a pillar of the Santa Monica community, giving thousands of dollars annually to local organizations, as determined by a staff-lead Charitable Contributions Committee, and supporting employees to perform volunteer work.
