Elder-Well is a Santa Monica based adult day program providing non-medical, social-supportive services for older adults, including individuals experiencing memory loss, dementia, or social isolation. Its mission is centered on creating a safe, welcoming environment where participants can remain engaged, independent, and connected to their community while providing caregivers with meaningful respite and support.
Sustainability and wellness were incorporated into Elder-Well’s initial build-out rather than added retroactively. The facility uses energy-efficient LED lighting, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and ENERGY STAR-rated appliances to reduce energy and water consumption. Elder-Well also prioritizes waste reduction through reusable dishware, utensils, and activity materials, along with compostable or recyclable alternatives when disposables are necessary. Recycling and waste-sorting systems further encourage responsible resource use among staff and participants.
The organization also selected low-VOC paints, non-toxic cleaning products, and durable furnishings to promote healthier indoor air quality and reduce environmental impact. These choices complement Elder-Well’s broader focus on participant well-being through enriching activities, nutritious meals and snacks, social connection, and a supportive setting.
By integrating environmental responsibility with its commitment to healthy aging and community connection, Elder-Well demonstrates how a care focused organization can create a more sustainable and health conscious space for both participants and their families.
