Cafe Ruisseau is a black owned family business serving the West-LA area since 2005! They are passionate about locally roasted coffee, people, culture & community. Their Santa Monica café offers a community space for people to connect, work, or sit back and enjoy a cup– indoors or outdoors. Located inside a 2018 rated LEED Silver Certified Building, Café Ruisseau applies several noteworthy green practices to reduce their carbon footprint.
Café Ruisseau’s eco-procurement includes coffee cups made with 35% post-consumer recycled fiber (PCR) which help close the recycling loop. All other paper products, from paper towels to coffee filters, contain unbleached and/or processed chlorine-free paper and minimum 40% PCR fibers. Reusable cleaning cloths are also stocked. Ruisseau offers several non-dairy product options to cow milk such as oat, almond, soy, and coconut milk. All refrigerators are ENERGY STAR®.
To minimize pollution, Café Ruisseau procures less toxic cleaners that are healthier to use such as Mrs Meyers soaps and Grove Co multi-purpose concentrated cleaner. Grove Co is a Certified B Corp company with products that are certified by Leaping Bunny containing FSC®-certified paper packaging.
To minimize waste ending up in local landfills, Café Ruisseau employees received training and follow posted signage for correctly separating materials for recycling in the blue bin, and for composting. Spent coffee grounds are collected by neighborhood residents to use in their gardens. Employees bring their own water bottles to refill onsite. Paperless receipts are only offered via text or email.
Café Ruisseau supports the community by offering up their space for DJ and musical performance special events on weekends.
